Storage that follows the way you live

Design practical apartment storage by measuring your belongings, separating daily and occasional use, and protecting access to building services.

Storage works when it removes effort from ordinary routines. A beautiful cupboard that is too deep, too high or in the wrong room can simply hide disorder. Before designing more cabinetry, count what you own and identify the places where items are repeatedly left without a home.

Measure belongings, not just walls

Measure luggage, cleaning equipment, kitchen appliances, folded linen and anything unusually shaped. Group items by frequency of use. Daily objects belong where they can be reached easily; seasonal items can occupy less convenient positions. Include the opening space needed for drawers and doors, not only the cabinet footprint.

Design the entrance as a transition

Provide a place for keys, bags, shoes and the items that leave with you. In a compact apartment, a shallow closed cabinet and a small open tray may be enough. Avoid turning the circulation route into a dressing area. Consider where wet umbrellas or outdoor footwear will sit without damaging adjacent finishes.

Specify the inside as carefully as the outside

Ask for internal dimensions, shelf spacing, drawer arrangement and hardware details. A tall door can conceal an inefficient interior. Compare adjustable shelves and replaceable fittings where your needs may change. Check how integrated appliances, sockets and service panels remain accessible after installation.

Leave room for change

Do not fill every recess simply because a cupboard will fit. A useful empty area can accommodate a future desk, mobility needs or a different furniture layout. Review what can be repaired and how the joinery is fixed. Good storage supports the household without making the apartment inflexible.

Your practical checklist

  • Inventory bulky and daily-use items.
  • Measure clear internal cabinet dimensions.
  • Check doors and drawers in use.
  • Keep service points accessible.
