Plan your kitchen before choosing cabinet doors
Arrange preparation, cooking, washing and storage around real kitchen routines, then coordinate appliances and services before ordering cabinetry.

Cabinet colour is an enjoyable decision, but it should not be the first one. A kitchen succeeds when preparation space, appliances and storage work together. Begin by walking through an ordinary meal: bringing groceries in, washing produce, cooking, serving and cleaning up.
Follow the work, not a fashionable shape
An island is useful only if it improves the room. Test a layout with every appliance door open and with someone moving past the person cooking. Plan a clear preparation surface near the tasks it serves. If space is tight, an efficient wall layout with a separate dining table may work better than a crowded island.
Decide appliances early
Confirm exact models or installation requirements before cabinet manufacture. Check ventilation gaps, door movement, service access and the route for future replacement. Ask who coordinates extraction, power, water and drainage. A built-in appliance should not become impossible to remove without damaging a finished worktop.
Place storage by task
Keep frequently used utensils near preparation and cooking, everyday dishes near unloading, and food storage where it is visible and reachable. Compare drawers with shelves according to what will actually go inside. Include waste separation and cleaning products in the plan rather than finding leftover space for them later.
Review a full-size mock-up
Use tape or temporary boxes to test the footprint. Consider your height, mobility and whether more than one person uses the kitchen at once. Review worktop joins, lighting positions and splashback details together. Final dimensions must be confirmed on site by the responsible suppliers and installers before production.
