Buying appliances: read beyond the energy letter
Use energy labels, model information and installation requirements to compare appliances for your Greek home without relying on a headline rating alone.

An appliance purchase combines running needs, physical fit and support after installation. The energy label is useful, but the most efficient-looking letter is not the whole decision. Compare models that meet the same household requirement, then examine capacity, consumption, noise and practical operation.
Compare equivalent needs
Start with how often you use the appliance and the capacity you actually need. An oversized product is not automatically the better purchase. For relevant EU-labelled products, use the model’s label and EPREL entry to check the stated information. Different product categories and test conditions should not be casually compared as though they were one scale.
Read the detail for the category
The European Commission’s dishwasher guidance explains the A–G label and provides access to product information. Look beyond the letter to the measurements shown for the category, including capacity and programme-related consumption. Use these as standardised comparison data, not a promise of your exact bill. Your usage pattern and chosen programmes affect real consumption.
Check installation before ordering
Measure openings, ventilation clearances, door swings and the route for removal. Confirm electrical, water and drainage requirements with the installer. Ask who supplies connection parts and who tests the installation. A seemingly ideal appliance can be an expensive mismatch if it requires unplanned cabinetry or service changes.
Compare ownership, not just checkout
Read warranty terms, local service arrangements, return conditions and the availability of replacement parts. Consider controls you can understand and maintain. Keep a record of the exact model and serial number. This article offers a comparison method; it does not claim to have tested individual appliances or verified live retailer prices.
Your practical checklist
- Choose capacity for your household.
- Check the exact model’s official information.
